"Three For The Road" oil on masonite 6x6" SOLD

These women's suits are so sterile. Somehow hanging here, on a blank wall just exaserbated that feeling. Who wears these uniforms? why? It made for some great imagery but certainly won't be found in my closet. Does anyone else remember a time when "girls" weren't allowed to wear pants to school? frowned on in the work place? Oh, the good ole days!

    6x6" oil on panel
painting the beach AGAIN - sorry if its getting boring - actually have soooo many ideas rattling my brain that they wake me up, so i always have to focus and paint the familiar before moving on. wanted to make her cover up yellow but had a hard time of it SO went back to the pink - familiar - it works but yellow would have really popped.

"Luck of the Draw" oil on canvas 20x30"

I have a really wonderful friend that scrapped everything he knew as "normal" and bought an old neighborhood bar. He's striving to make it a destination Blues Bar. I wish it wasn't a 45 minute drive. I go as often as I can. The music has been great and he has IDEAS that would make your head spin. It's going to be a wonderful place. This won't be the last image you see of it. Pat's Bar & Grill, Kent, Washington

"Wishful Thinking" oil on masonite 6x6"

This woman and this particular magazine seemed like such an odd fit. Proof, yet again, that we should never make assumptions based on appearance. Good Housekeeping? Readers Digest? It was delightful to watch her, seated next to her husband, each silent in their meanders through respectful periodicals.

"Promises" oil on masonite 4x6"

Is there anything more optimistic than a wedding gown? Seattle has such wonderful window candy. It's like living in the desert; you don't even notice that it is a nice day because every day is a nice day. Who needs a coat? When you live outside of the city you notice it all. Pity the locals.

"Lily White" oil on masonite 6x6"

Ross and I grow these beauties in our garden. It started with my son's wedding. We planted Casablancas for their color - white - and their fabulous smell. We've planted lots since then so I've totally lost control of which is which...except the original Casablanca. You can NOT mistake that fragrance. When I started this image I thought the background would be deep, midnight blue. Something happened along the way....
Oh! and my thanks to Karin Jurick for her advice on photographing. Even though it was minimal it got me to revisit some of the Photo Shop elements. This may not be perfect but it's far better than it's been. Thanks Karin!

"The Approach" oil on masonite 4x7"

No more complaining about my lousy camera skills. They are what they are.
This mime was at the famous Pike Place Market in Seattle. You can't tell but he was REALLY tall. Somehow it made his performance even more magical. How does one do that? Entertain everyone but restrain from a single utterance? Being in costume makes a person brave. Maybe that's part of it.

"A Story To Tell" oil on masonite 6x6"

This is another pic of the painting. It's better but still not there. The gold tones in the face are not nearly so prominent. However, I think the clarity is a little better. I'll keep trying...6" of snow on the groung this morning. Good time for computer work.

I've never been much on pity but I will confess, this one had me in the throws. I was so please with this painting but after photographing it and trying to load it to today's post I realized just how substandard my photos are. No one will get the quality of this painting. This is really what it's all about for me. This is what I want to do. This mime was at the Pike Place Market. It is a very famous Seattle landmark. Everything about him screamed "painting". I'm sorry I can't pull of the photo part. I could not be prouder of a piece.

"Lemons Alone" oil on masonite 6x6" SOLD

It's so strange; Ross and I were in my studio together. We bought this ridiculously expensive framing system, thinking in the long run we would be helping with my small paintings. I painted while he struggled with the set up. These lemons were the product. It's the first time I felt like they actually FELT like lemons when I was done. Maybe it's the influence of the framing system. Needless to say, things did not go so well. The system is designed for BIGGER PAINTINGS. Who knew???? As much as I like my lemons in a dish I think I'm going for lemons in a glass...with tequila.

"Brothers, Three" Oil on masonite

This is a tight little community. As "newbies" we've only been here since 1990. Rumor has it that 3 very elderly brothers reside in this house. Every year the community marvels at the beautiful flower and expansive vegetable garden that surrounds their small home. When the timing is just right you'll catch a glimpse of an old man, baggy overalls, rake in hand tending to all the particulars of their magical space. I've never been able to tell if I'm seeing the same man over and over or each of the brothers, taking his turn.

Hydrangeas and Oranges

    12"x12" oil on masonite $300.00

Happy Spring!!!! New beginnings... rebirth...fresh start.... I'm thinking today is a better day to make a change than New Year's Day. I've got a few in mind for myself, including painting bigger more often and experimenting, which brought me to todays still life. Trying to stay loose and painterly, this was fun. The composition is a little wonky but it really was a spur of the moment painting, I just dove right in and didnt fuss, this is all a bunch of stuff on my studio table, (I brought the hydrangeas down to brighten my basement space today :)

Incoming Tide

    6x6" oil on masonite
Its windy cold March. Trying to 'feel' that hot sun, and that end of a good beach day warmth. Some artists are drawn to their subjects by a color or subject. For me, its more about an emotional draw, something has to really grab me in some personal way. There needs to be an emotional connection. Then hopefully that feeling gets passed onto the viewer.
