In Washington state this is considered a noxious weed. Hard to believe.
These wonderful flowers remind me how much work is ahead to get the property tuned up for the 2007 season. I'm tired just thinking about it....but it will be worth every bead of sweat.
There was something about this jolt of color surrounded by all the denim. I'm not a jeans kind of gal but the orange dress.................
This is the remainder of the group from yesterday. After spending so much time painting headless display figures I was really looking forward to these. Neither of them turned out the way I had envisioned; in fact I've repainted "2 Chicks" already. However, I really enjoyed doing them and, like the cat images, will continue regardless.
I'll never understand the willingness to pay the same for one cup of fancy Joe that a pound of reasonable ground coffee costs. That's probably not natural coming from someone so close to Seattle.
The delicate nature of these gowns makes for such an elegant statement.
As I look back over this series I realize how heavily weighted it is with female imagery. The few masculine garments are casual and loose. When I saw these powerful chests, high above the other displays I stopped dead in my tracks. It was almost a Bond moment. I LOVE dress up!
This dress is in the most amazing little shop. The floor is so full of gowns you can barely think. I introduced myself to the owners and explained about my paintings. They were most certainly foreign born and the conversation was a little labored. However, once they got over their skepticism they were very proud to have me wander the floor, appreciating all that they had painstakingly picked. When I reached the back of the store I was frozen with the sight of this lushious gown. It stood alone between two mirrors, elevated from the main floor. The color of the carpet defies definition. Teamed with the sherbert hues of the dress it was truly magical.
When I got married both my nieces as well as their mother wore white. They were my wedding party. Seeing this little dress next to the adult version brought back memories of that day. Not traditional then and probably not now. I'm so glad we did it the way we did.
This somehow reminds me of my mother. She was very elegant, very southern and always very well dressed. She died when she was 47 so in my minds eye she never got old. I didn't get her long, lanky genes so I never quite was the daughter she had in mind. I think she hoped to raise a Miss America. Instead she got a stocky athelete with scraped knees and elbows and a desire to run with the boys. I wish I had known her better.
I'm afraid the color on this is not accurate. The overall gold is actually more on the green side. One of the photo bulbs blew out just as I was photographing. I don't think I can get one at this time of night. Sorry.
We live in a small town where many of the families have been here for generations. Some days it's hard to know who works in the shops and who's shopping. Everyone mills around, in and out, behind the counters carrying on like it was a coffee clatch. This is in one of those glorious shops. The Jackie O wanna be is tucked back in a corner, surrounded by hangers full of history just waiting to be loved again. The hats rotate in and out but the rest stays pretty much the same. I've come to count on that.
We have 5 cats. They are all over indulged but this big guy is visually magic for me. He's sitting in my lap, helping me with the computer as I write. It's a ritual we share.
I'm becoming oddly comfortable with these headless creatures. The title comes from this strange feeling I get from this angle. It's almost as if they are huddling together, depending on the strength of the group. As much as I miss painting heads I almost don't miss them with these three.
There was something sort of lonely about these two gowns, silently standing in the window with no sign of proper escort.
